UVM Slides Past Hawks
Hartford, Conn. — Brian Voelkel scored 12 points to lead Vermont to a 49-43 victory over Hartford last night in a low-scoring America East game.
The Catamounts (14-7, 7-2), who won for the fifth time in six games, led 22-21 at halftime. Voelkel was the lone Catamount in double figures.
For Hartford (11-10, 4-4), Mark Nwakamma was the only Hawk to score in double figures. He also finished with 12 points, hitting 5 of 10 shots from the floor.
Voelkel, meanwhile, was 3 for 5 from the field, including a 3-pointer. He was also 5 for 6 at the foul line, where Vermont went 10 for 17. Hartford hit just 4 of 10 at the stripe.

Ann Arbor, Mich. — Trey Burke had 18 points and eight assists, and No. 1 Michigan was nearly flawless at the start en route to a victory over Northwestern.
Michigan took over the top spot in the AP poll this week for the first time since the 1992-93 season. The Wolverines can now prepare for Saturday night’s showdown at No. 3 Indiana.
