Richard L. Herschel
Windsor, Vt. — Richard L. Herschel, 73, a resident of Windsor and formerly of Hartland, passed away Monday morning, June 17, 2013, at his home in Windsor.
He was born Jan. 3, 1940, in Windsor the son of Richard L. Hendricks and Rita Herschel. He received his schooling in Windsor and graduated from Windsor High School in 1958. He was a veteran of the US Army serving during peacetime. He married Joyce Temple on July 23, 1963, in Hartland. Richard was employed at the former Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company in Windsor for several years and later at Cone Blanchard Machine Tool Company in Windsor. He most recently was employed as a construction foreman for Lane Construction in Meriden, Conn. for several years until 1993.
He was a member of the VFW in White River Jct., Vt. and the Hartland Fish and Game Club. He was an active Boy Scout Leader for Troop 235 in Hartland for many years. He also served in the US Army Reserve for several years.
Mr. Herschel enjoyed woodworking and was an avid hunter.
Survivors include, five sons, Richard Herschel, Jr. and his wife, Jennifer of Webster, Mass., Lincoln Herschel, of Bangor, Maine, Todd Herschel and his wife, Karen, of Troutmans, N.C., Mark Herschel, of Hartland and Greg Herschel and his wife, Tonya, of Ascutney, Vt.; nine grandchildren; one great grandchild; his former wife, Joyce Herschel of Hartland; one brother, Randy Oakes of Bethel Vt.; five sisters, Rae Myatt, of Olympia, Wash., Doreen Thompkins, of Olympia, Carlene Kimball, of Lebanon, N.H., Sandra Lyons, of Lebanon and Allison Maracle of Deseronto, Ontario, Canada; many nieces and nephews.
At his request private services will be held at the convenience of the family.
