Arnold Robert Appell

Deerfield Beach, Fla. — Arnold Robert Appell passed away peacefully with his family at his side on Wednesday, May 14, 2014, in Deerfield Beach. He grew up in Belle Harbor, N.Y., before moving to Norwalk, Conn., where he excelled as a varsity athlete in football, baseball and basketball before graduating from Norwalk High School.

He started a sales career and became the Sales Manager of JP Frank and Company in New York City for 27 years then changed careers to start a general contracting business in Westport, Conn., where he lived for 34 years. He then retired to Grantham, N.H., where he spent 15 years of his life before moving to Florida. His favorite hobby was building model airplanes. Many of these were WWII replicas. His other passion was golf, and clearly one of the highlights of his life came while playing Chatham Bars Inn G.C. when he shot a 255-yard hole-in-one on the 8th hole, a par 3.

He leaves behind his loving wife of 63 years, Ranice (Sheppard) Appell; his son, Howard M. Appell of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; his daughter, Linda Reida, son-in-law, Andrew Reida and granddaughter, Elyssa Reida of Ashburnham, Mass.; his sister, Susan Garside of Dade City, Fla.; and several nieces and nephews.

The family requests that donations be made in his name to Vitas Hospice Care, 1901 S. Congress Ave. #420, Boynton Beach, FL 33426.
