Carol Marie Gandert

Claremont, N.H. — Carol Marie Gandert, 79, artist, beloved mother and grandmother, died peacefully at the Elm Wood Center in Claremont on Monday, April 7, 2014. She was a resident of Cornish, N.H. for many years. She was born on Oct. 24, 1934, in Mansfield, Ohio, the daughter of Anthony and Anna (Carr) Mash.

In 1952, Carol graduated from St Peter’s High School in Mansfield. She attended Ohio University.

She was an executive secretary for over 40 years, working at Mansfield Tire, Gorman Rupp Industries and Tenneco Oil. She retired from the American Red Cross in Washington DC.

Carol was an accomplished artist in many areas; oil painting, pottery, pen and ink drawing, sewing, rug braiding and weaving. She generously donated thousands of Afghans to hospitals, nursing homes and charities over the years.

She married James F. Gandert on her birthday in 1959.

The family includes her two daughters, Alicia Gandert-Parrish of Phoenix, Ariz. and Springfield, Vt. and Amy Gandert-Whalen of Grantham, N.H.; her eight grandchildren, Kenneth and Kevin Garrett of Mansfield, Lance and Scott Parrish of Norfolk, Va., Kelsey Parrish of Phoenix, Trey and Alex Whalen of Cornish, and DellaRose Whalen of Grantham; her two great-grandchildren, Teagan and Zoey Parrish.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James on Dec. 4, 2004, her daughter, Gayla in 1963 and her two sisters, Anna “Mickey” Semich and Elaine Weekly.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, April 10 at 11 a.m. in Saint Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Windsor, Vt. with the Very Reverend Thomas Mosher, Pastor officiating.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to Connecticut Valley Homecare/Hospice, John Stark Highway, Newport, NH 03773.

An intimate luncheon will be held at Amy’s new residence in Grantham following the service.

Arrangements are with Stringer Funeral Homes, Inc., 146 Broad Street in Claremont.
