Douglas E. Schnyer
Claremont, N.H. — Douglas E. Schnyer, 72, of Park Avenue, Claremont died on Thursday morning, Dec.13, 2012, at his home following a 1 ½ year battle with esophageal cancer.
He was born on Oct. 23, 1940, in Claremont, the son of Marjorie (Ott) Schnyer and the late Harold E. Schnyer.
Doug was a 1960 graduate of Stevens High School and married Joanne Smith on Sept. 15, 1962.
He worked with his dad at Schnyer’s Auto Body for several years while in school. He was also employed for a time at Atkinson Davis Furniture and Davis & Simond Lumber Company. Doug had managed Schnyer’s Chevron Station for many years.
He was head coordinator of the Alumni Parade for several years and had served as President of the Stevens Alumni in 1972.
A long time ski enthusiast, he instructed part time at Claremont Country Club, Sunapee Mountain, Arrowhead Ski Area and Ascutney Mountain Ski Resort.
In the years before retiring he was employed as a full time ski instructor at Ascutney Mountain Ski Resort in the winters and a member of the maintenance team during the summers.
The family includes his wife, Joanne Schnyer; one daughter, Sarah Maki and one son, Bradley Schnyer both of Claremont; five grandchildren, Laura Maki, Andrew Maki, Julia Maki, Craig Lafountain-Schnyer and Nickolas Schnyer; also aunts, uncles and cousins.
Friends may call at the Stringer Funeral Home, 146 Broad Street, Claremont on Monday evening, Dec. 17, 2012, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Funeral services will be held privately.
