Heavy Snow Cuts Power, Causes Several Accidents Accid
A fast moving storm dumped several inches of wet snow on the Upper Valley Sunday evening, causing some power outages and accidents.
In Claremont, Fire Department Captain Tim Bergeron said the worst damage caused by the heavy snow was just a few localized power outages. Other agencies, including the Vermont State Police’s Bradford Barracks and Lebanon’s fire department, did not report anything out of the ordinary.
Several accidents and brief road closures were reported, including a multi-vehicle accident on Interstate 91 in Weathersfield around mile marker 47.
At about 9:30 p.m., Green Mountain Power reported more than 900 outages in Windsor, as well as nearly 800 in West Fairlee. Public Service of New Hampshire reported as many as 500 outages in Claremont, Newport, Croydon and Sunapee.
Statewide, Public Service of New Hampshire had about 5,100 outages and New Hampshire Electric Co-op had 2,550 customers in the dark. Vermont’s Green Mountain Power had about 3,370 outages Sunday night.
