Head-On Collision in Newport Injures Three Adults and Child

Newport — Four people, including a two-month old child, suffered minor injuries in a head-on collision Wednesday afternoon on Sunapee Street, near the former Dorr Woolen plant.

According to Newport Police, Mary Mccallister, 44, of Newport, was traveling west in a 2007 Chevy Cobalt when she crossed the center line and collided with a 2007 Dodge Durango traveling east and operated by Adam Castor, 27, of Newport. In Castor’s car were his wife, Pamela, 31, and their two-month old child.

New London Ambulance transported Pamela Castor and her child to New London Hospital with minor injuries. Mccallister and her passenger, Francine Howe, 27, of Newport, had to be extricated from the Cobalt. They were transported to Valley Regional Hospital by Newport Ambulance with non-life threatening injuries.

A dog in Mccallister car’s was not injured.

The cause of the accident remains under investigation, Newport Police Chief Jim Burroughs said.

The road was closed for about an hour, reopening at 3:10 p.m. Sunapee and Croydon Police assisted Newport Police in directing traffic around the closed road.
