Lake Sunapee Region VNA & Hospice Announces Awards, Elects Officers

New London — Lake Sunapee Region VNA & Hospice honored two volunteers, a board member, one employee and a dog at its annual meeting earlier this month in Wilmot. Also during the meeting, board members officers were elected.

Kathy Everest, a physical therapist at the agency for 17 years, and her therapy dog “Harry” received the “Imagine The Possibilities Award.” Everest, a Concord resident, was nominated by her peers for the award, which is presented to a staff member each year.

Lyn Ferguson and Donna Vassar, both of Newbury, N.H., received “Excellence in Philanthropy” awards for their work with the Renaissance Shoppe. Proceeds from the volunteer-run resale shop benefit Lake Sunapee Region VNA & Hospice.

Guest speaker Dr. James Horak, hospice medical director designee, discussed the need for more conversations about end of life choices.

Departing board chairman Michael Wood, of New London, was recognized for his work, and the following board officers were elected for the 2013-2104 term: Lea Ayers LaFave, of Andover, N.H., chairwoman; Sheldon Boege, of New London, vice chairman; Courtland Cross, of New London, treasurer; and Deb Johnson, of Newbury, N.H., secretary. Maynard Goldman, of Grantham, was elected chairman of the Community Health Services Board, which delivers non-medical personal care.

Names Employee of the Month

Windsor — Vickie Day, of Chester, Vt., has been named March employee of the month at Mt. Ascutney Hospital and Health Center. The award recognizes employees who have demonstrated service excellence in their respective departments and displayed compassion, a caring approach and continuous hard work within their community.

A licensed practical nurse, Day works with patients in the Acute Medical-Surgical Unit. She plans and administers care and helps with the ongoing evaluation of patients’ physical, spiritual and psychosocial needs.

Her work includes delivering medications and conducting IV therapies such as insertion, maintenance and blood products. Day also provides patients and their families with educational information and makes referrals to dieticians, pharmacists and patient educators.
