Grantham’s Russell Leads Hawks to Win

Huntingdon Valley, Pa. — Grantham’s Evan Russell produced his second individual medal in his last three collegiate golf tournaments in leading the University of Hartford to a team victory at the Temple Invitational on Sunday at the Philmont Country Club. Dartmouth finished 14th in the 17-school event.

A sophomore out of Kimball Union Academy, Russell shot a 2-under-par 68 on Sunday and finished the 36-hole event at 10-under 130, the best two-round performance of his collegiate career. Hartford teammate Anthony Vecchiarelli finished second behind Russell at 2-under 138; they were the only golfers in the tourney to break par for the weekend.

Hartford won the tournament with a team tally of 562 strokes, 15 better than runner-up St. John’s.

The Big Green shot 612 as a team. Scott Jaster shot the low round for Dartmouth on both days, shooting a 1-over 71 on Sunday to tie for 24th place individually.

Rockport, Maine — Hartford High graduate Zach Temple finished tied for third individually as the Castleton State men’s golf team finished fourth at the North Atlantic Conference Championships at the Samoset Resort.

Temple shot a 79 on Sunday and a two-day tally of 153, the lowest total by a freshman at the tournament. Castleton finished fourth as a team at 646 over 36 holes.
