Fortura Petraglia Damien
Hyannis, Mass. — Fortura (Agnes) Petraglia Damien, 100, of Hyannis, died Saturday, Jan. 19, 2013, at Cape Regency Nursing Home in Centerville after a brief illness. Born in Shrewsbury, Vt., Fortura was the daughter of the late Leopoldo and Angelina (Saveriano) Petraglia. She was predeceased by her husband, Arthur Damien.
Fortura graduated from Black River Academy of Ludlow, Vt. and was a 1932 graduate of Castleton Normal School of Castleton, Vt. She lived most her life in Windsor, Vt. before moving to Hyannis in 1996 to be closer to her daughter. She loved to cook and was famous for her apple pie.
She is survived by her two daughters, Mary Maher and her husband, William of Hyannis and Barbara Macdonald and her husband, Duncan of Spartanburg, S.C.; six grandchildren, Lisa Laurence, Richard Maher, Karen Maher, Christopher Maher, Tracy Wolford and Kerry Caffall; 10 great grandchildren; her sister, Rachel Pinard of Ludlow; also, several nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews. Fortura was predeceased by her sisters, Carmella Greenslet, Ida Lehtonen and brother, Andrew Petraglia.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, Jan. 26, 2013, at 10 a.m. in St. Francis Xavier Church, 347 South St. Hyannis. A burial will be in the spring in Mt. Olivet Cemetery, White River Junction, Vt. There will be no calling hours.
