Donald T. Munsey, Jr.
Sandwich, Mass. — Donald T. Munsey, Jr., 80 of Sandwich, died Tuesday, Jan. 21, 2014, in Falmouth, Mass. Don was born in Boston to Donald and Cora Munsey of Hampton, N.H., May 29,1933. He graduated from Hampton Academy in 1951 and earned a B.A. in 1960 and a M.S. in microbiology in 1963 from the University of N.H.
Don served from 1954-1957 in the 4th Tactical Depot Squadron, U.S. Air Force, in the U.S. and England. He married Sandra Goss in 1959 and lived in Durham, N.H. They moved to Frederick, Md. where he worked as a microbiologist at Ft. Detrick, then moved to U.S. Army Natick Soldier Systems Center, followed by a position with Security Designs Consultants. After living in Medfield, Mass. 30 years, they retired to Cape Cod.
A lifelong love of music began with choral singing and saxophone playing at Hampton Academy. He sang with Framingham and Walpole SPEBSQSA chapters and performed at many events with the “four’n Accord” barbershop quartet. While living on Cape Cod he sang as a member of the Falmouth Chorale.
Don’s ability to focus on fine details enabled him to do beautiful woodworking, creating treasured quilts, and growing abundant home gardens. “Mr. Mom” ahead of his time, he attended all his daughters events in a era when he was often the only man in the room. A great supporter of 4-H club activities, Don served on the 4-H club activities, Don served on the 4-H Camp Farley camp corporation for several years. Don was a 50-year member of the Star in East Masonic Lodge #59 Exeter, NH and the Frederick, Md. Chapter # 79 Order of the Eastern Star.
Don is survived by his wife Sandra; daughters, Suzanne and Carol Munsey; two granddaughters, Leah Munsey-Konops and Sarah Konops; brother, Kendric Munsey; and cousins, Jeanette Zellner, Robert and Charles Leik and Richard Stone.

A memorial service will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 17, 2014, at the Nickerson Bourne Funeral Home, Rt. 6A Sandwich, MA. Burial will be at a later date in Rye, N.H.
