Shooting Range In Hartland Now Open

Hartland — The Hammond Cove Shooting Range, a state-owned enclosure that replaces a dirt pit previously used for shooting, is now open, Vermont Fish and Wildlife officials said in a news release yesterday.

The 100-yard rifle range is free to the public and boasts 20-foot side berms and a backstop that reaches more than 60 feet high. It is the first state-owned range for public shooting, the release states.

The range is open seven days a week. Until April 30, it’s open from 8:30 a.m. to 30 minutes before sunset on Monday through Saturday; on Sundays, it’s open from 9:30 a.m. to 30 minutes before sunset.

From May 1 to August 31, the hours change slightly. On Monday through Saturday it’s open from 8:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m., and on Sunday it’s free to use between 9:30 a.m. and 7:30 p.m. There will be a grand opening at some point in the spring, according to the release.
