Letter: A Fervent Holiday Wish
To the Editor:
I salute everyone who came out into the cold for the 26 vigils in Vermont and Hanover’s event honoring the victims of Newtown (“Frigid Vigils on Newtown Anniversary,” Dec. 15.) And several hundred vigils across the nation affirm that Newtown still informs many Americans to what really matters.
That’s why my wish this holiday season is next year’s holiday season for all our children. A safe gun-storage law in Vermont would make our kids safer, as similar laws in 27 states and Washington, D.C., already do. Vermont leads the Northeast in the youth firearm suicide death rate and youth accidental firearm death rate, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Our state lawmakers and our governor have the power to fix this. Let them know what you think.
