Letter: Fault Obama, Not Ayotte
To the Editor:
There has been a lot of anger directed at U.S. Sen. Kelly Ayotte as a result of her vote on the expanded background check bill. If anyone deserves castigation, it is the president and his supporters. Instead of doing something meaningful to reduce violence, he insisted on dragging out a rehashed wish list of gun control proposals that even supporters admitted would not have stopped Sandy Hook.
Why did he not focus on improving mental health care services? Or reforming the existing background check system to include all persons deemed mentally unfit to own a firearm? Why no real discussion about violence-saturated movies and video games? He cynically used Sandy Hook to advance legislation he has wanted to pass from his first day in office. The president has failed the victims of Sandy Hook more than Ayotte.
