Letter: Too Quick To Play the Race Card

To the Editor:

Shame on you, Peter Hoe Burling! To suggest that the only reason Susan Rice is being “viciously attacked” is because she is female and/or because she is African-American is absolutely ridiculous and is typical of anyone connected to the Democratic Party since President Obama took office. Any time anyone in this administration is criticized for anything, the race card is the first thing you people play.

News flash: Race has nothing to do with it. Her gender has nothing to do with it. It is all about her going on five different shows spouting the story that the attack happened because of an anti-Muslim video, especially since we now know that it was known within 24 hours that it was a terrorist attack and that Gen. Petraeus had said that it was a terrorist attack. Do you seriously think that if any of the white men who hold a high office in the Obama administration had told the American public this same fairy tale that they wouldn’t be under the gun, too?

One of the promises that President Obama made the first time he was running for office was to run one of “the most transparent administrations in history.” So much for that one! If anything, this is one of the least transparent administrations in history. I keep hearing that they didn’t want to blame it on a terrorist attack until they had the facts, but not having the facts sure didn’t keep them from spreading the video story. I am not saying whether or not Rice should be nominated for secretary of state, but if she is she should definitely undergo some serious questioning about this whole sordid mess before being confirmed. Her race and gender have nothing to do with it at all.
