Ethel F. Lashua
Canaan, N.H. — Ethel F. Lashua, 98, died peacefully at home on Sunday, Sept. 15, 2013.
She was born in Danbury, N.H. on Feb. 23, 1915, a daughter of the late Frank and Alice Hillsgrove. Ethel was raised and attended school in Danbury. At a very young age Ethel took an interest in sewing and worked many years as a seamstress. She was considered a top-notch seamstress by many. Ethel also spent over thirty years working for Dr. and Mary Dinerman.
On Dec. 19, 1936, Ethel married Eben Lashua. They made their home in Canaan and enjoyed spending time at Cardigan Mountain State Park, where Ethel once had the opportunity to take a thrilling Jeep ride to the summit. Ethel also enjoyed country music, reading, playing scrabble and going to bingo. In addition to sewing, she was also very talented at needlepoint and crocheting. She always welcomed visitors, whether it was a planned visit or just someone stopping by. She enjoyed traveling over the years with family and friends whether it was a long distance trip or just a short ride over the back roads. She was always very fond of animals and lately was able to enjoy the companionship of her Siamese cat (Kitty). She enjoyed the simple things in life, but her greatest joy came from just spending time with her family and friends.
She was predeceased by her husband in July, 1971; her daughter, Helen (Neily) in Feb., 1972; a son-in-law, Herbie Neily; her sister, Clarabelle Hilyard; and a granddaughter, Tina Neily.
She is survived by two sons and their spouses, Gerald and Barbara Lashua and Donald and Linda Lashua; five grandchildren, Shirley Neily, Kathy Neily and her companion, Richie LaBounty, Lisa Davis, Donnie Lashua and his wife, Leanne, and Kevin Lashua; six great-grandchildren, Ashley & Mitchell Davis, Matthew, Meagan, Travis and Kaycee Lashua; and three great-great grandchildren, Aubriana Labrie, Kylee Lashua and Tanner Dickinson, all of Canaan. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
Ethel, also fondly known as “Gram”, will be dearly missed by all who knew her.
