Thelma Jean Buxton
Randolph, Vt. — Thelma Jean Buxton, 89, passed away Wednesday, June 12, 2013, at Gifford Medical Center after a short illness. She was born June 10, 1924, in Randolph. She was dearly loved by her family. Thelma enjoyed playing the piano, baking pies and cookies. She was Mrs. B. in The Herald. She loved to read, appreciated literature, enjoyed crossword and jigsaw puzzles. She was a poet and very artistic. She was affiliated with Bethany Church.
Thelma also enjoyed researching genealogy. She was descended from John Howard from Plymouth Colony, Mass., who lived with Captain Miles Standish.
She owned the first house on So. Main St. She liked gardening and walking in the woods.
She had one sister, Barbara Davison from Burlington. Her parents were Charles and Ruth Howard of Randolph.
Thelma was married to Bernard Buxton June 1946.
Thelma worked at Abraham’s Drug Store in Burlington, Savage’s Mill in Randolph, VanRaalte’s and Merrimaids. After her husband died on Oct. 11, 1971, she worked at the State of Vermont Sales Tax Department. She retired at the age of 62 to care for her aging parents.
Thelma had four daughters. Linda Austin of East Burke, Vt. died Oct. 7, 2010. She is survived by Nancy Cassidy and her husband, Charles Cassidy, of Randolph, Marcia Eaton and the late James Eaton, of Randolph and Jean Hlady and her husband, Craig Hlady, of Dedham, Mass. She has seven grandchildren, Matthew Eaton and his wife, Sharla, of Chesapeake, Va., Andrea Eaton, presently teaching in Romania, Larissa Orjuela and her husband, Jorge Orjuela, of White House, Tenn., Morgan Eaton, of Salem, Mass., Christopher Cassidy, of Chicago, Ill., Shawn Cassidy and Stephanie Cassidy, of Bethel, Vt. and Michael Hlady of Dedham, Mass. She has six great-grandchildren, Amanda and Justin Cassidy, Elisha, Aliya and Olivia Eaton and Liana Orjuela.
Thelma left a legacy of love, laughter and tears.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, June 21, 2013, at the Day Funeral Home with Mrs. Betty Edson officiating. Burial will follow in the South View Cemetery, Randolph. Calling hours will be Thursday evening, June 20, 2013, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
