Woodstock Power Outage Blamed on Squirrel
Woodstock — Nearly 4,000 Green Mountain Power customers in Woodstock and some neighboring towns lost power for about six hours yesterday, after a squirrel sabotaged a substation, a Green Mountain Power spokesman said.
The outage occurred shortly after 10:30 a.m., said Robert Dostis, a spokesman for the energy company. Power was restored to all those affected just before 4 p.m.
Just before the restoration, the company’s online outage center listed 3,897 customers affected in Woodstock as a result of three separate problems.
Dostis said that the squirrel got through fencing meant to keep animals out and caused an insulator fail, which affected three circuits.
Though the incident also affected Barnard, Bridgewater and Pomfret, “it seemed like the bulk of the outages were in Woodstock,” Dostis said. — Jon Wolper
