Joy L. Den Hartog
Belfast, Maine — Joy L. Den Hartog, 76, died Monday, Dec. 10, 2012, at a hospice bed in Waldo County General Hospital in Belfast.
A naturalized American citizen from Cambridge, England, she worked at Dartmouth for 35 years. Joy was the indispensible assistant to three successive Chairmen of the Department of Psychiatry at Dartmouth Medical School from 1978 until her retirement in 2008.
She retired to her home by the sea in Belfast. A long time resident of Hanover, N.H. before her retirement, she was predeceased by her husband, Maarten Den Hartog, in 1974. Joy is survived by her brother-in-law, Stephen Den Hartog, of Hanover; a niece, Dorcas Wonsavage; a nephew, Maarten Den Hartog; and a sister, Mary Downham, who lives in Cambridge, England. A small celebration of her life was held in Belfast.
