Enfield, N.H. — Arabelle Tucker, 93, died Tuesday, April 1, 2014, at the Outreach House in Hanover, N.H. She was born on June 8, 1920, in Keene, N.H. to Grace Follansbee & Gilbert Burns. She spent her early childhood in Keene & E. Andover, N.H. before coming to live with her grandmother, Jennie (Moody) Peaslee in Canaan, N.H. and attending the Canaan public schools.
She married Sam E. Haskins in 1937 and had three children with him. They resided in Canaan. After Sam died in 1956, she married William Tucker in 1957, and moved to Spectacle Pond in Enfield.
She was an avid conservationist and several years ago donated Tucker Forest to the State of N.H.; she loved gardening, cooking, fishing, arts & crafts and genealogy. She worked at the Baltic Woolen Mill in Enfield, The First National Drugstore in Canaan, the A & P in Enfield and was a substitute mail carrier for the Town of Canaan. She belonged to 4-H, the Grange, the Lioness Club and Home Extension.
She is predeceased by her two loving husbands, E. Sam Haskins and William S. Tucker; and her two brothers, William Nixon and Donald Nixon. She is survived by her sister, Jennie Jones of Salisbury, N.H.; her three children, Elizabeth (Haskins) Wallace and husband, Eric of Canaan, James Haskins of Calif. and Michael Haskins & wife, Rita of Manchester, N.H.; three step-children, Lawrence Tucker & wife, Elaine of Indiana, Gene Tucker & wife, Virginia of N.C. and Candace (Tucker) Corno and husband, Don of Florida; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and nieces & nephews.
There will be no calling hours or funeral per her request. A celebration of her life will take place in June with announcements to follow.
In lieu of cards, donations may be made to the Canaan Senior Center and library.
