William H. Cummings, Jr.
Claremont, N.H. — William H. Cummings, Jr., 71, of West Pleasant Street in Claremont died Monday, Aug. 12, 2013, at his home following a brief illness. He was born in Lebanon, N.H. on May 26, 1942, the son of William H., Sr. and Marie (Rancourt) Cummings and had been a lifetime Claremont resident.
William was a veteran of the US Army, serving in Okinawa and Korea. He had been employed in the maintenance department at Valley Regional Hospital in Claremont for 13 years and later worked in the same capacity at Wal-Mart in Claremont for 13 years. William was an avid ham radio operator. He was a member of the American Legion Post #29, Claremont Moose Lodge #1201 and a life member of VFW Post 808.
Members of his family include two brothers, Henry Cummings, Zephyrhills, Fla., Theodore J. “Ted” Cummings, Claremont; three sisters, Janice Converse, Claremont, Virginia Dufresne, Claremont, Mary Stone, Charlestown, N.H.; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his parents and two sisters, Judith Cummings and Jo Ann Johnson.
There will be no visiting hours. Graveside committal services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Aug. 22, in Mountain View Cemetery with the Rev. Stanley J. Piwowar, officiating. Military honors will be provided by American Legion Post #29.
The family suggests that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to the VA Patient Activity Fund, 215 N. Main Street, White River Jct., VT 05009.
