Fire Destroys Home in Newport

Newport — A fire Wednesday night destroyed a home on Middle Street but caused no injuries.

The fire was called in about 9:20 and when firefighters arrived the single-family residence was “fully involved,” a police department news release stated.

The homeowner, Patrick Patten, was not home and is away on vacation, according to the release. His two dogs were found safely outside the home.

The fire was called under control at 10:35 but crews remained on the scene until past midnight. The residence is a complete loss.

The cause of the fire is unknown and state fire marshal’s office and Newport police are conducting an investigation.

Fire Departments from Claremont, Sunapee and New London assisted at the scene while Croydon and Goshen departments were called to cover the Newport fire station.
