Officials: Pomfret FIre That Killed Pets Caused by Wood Stove

A fire that destroyed a home and killed seven pets on White River Lane last week likely started by a first-floor wood stove, Hartford Public Safety Director Steve Locke said, though authorities are likely to never know exactly what sparked the blaze.

Locke said that authorities will likely declare the cause of the March 29 fire “undetermined,” but believe it was accidentally ignited by the wood stove. The fire was not suspicious, Locke said. Homeowner Candle Klampert was not home at the time of the fire, which killed four dogs and three cats.
