Newfane, Vt. — A Connecticut man who was charged last week with aggravated sexual assault and slave trafficking involving a boy in Windsor County was found dead yesterday after an apparent suicide, police said.

Frank Meyer, 39, of West Haven, Conn., was found dead around 3:30 p.m. on South Wardsboro Road in Newfane.

Detectives said the death “was consistent with that of a suicide,” and an autopsy is planned for today, according to a news release from Vermont State Police.

Meyer, a police and fire dispatcher in Connecticut, and Brett Bartolotta, 42, of Cavendish, Vt., were arrested last week and charged with aggravated sexual assault and slave trafficking, police said. Meyer had been released on conditions pending bail, authorities said.

The two men were accused of treating the victim, who is now 25, as a sex “slave” over several years. Meyer was also accused of bringing adolescents from Connecticut to Vermont, according to court documents.
