Wilma D. (Smith) Stearns
Grantham, N.H. — Wilma D. (Smith) Stearns, 71, of Grantham, became an angel on the wings of a beautiful indigo bunting on Dec. 11, 2013. She was born in Hanover on April 3, 1942, to Arthur Sr. and Dorothy (Church) Smith.
Married to Paul Stearns on Oct. 7, 1961, Wilma raised her five children, took loving care of her 12 grandchildren, adored her six great grandchildren and was the “adopted” mother and Nana to many others throughout the years.
Her love of family and friends was evident by all who were fortunate to know her. She spent her life taking care of others and making sure everyone who visited were well fed. Sewing was one of Wilma’s many talents with many of us enjoying her purses, doilies and rice bags.
Wilma is survived by her husband of 52 years, Paul Stearns; daughter, Paula Cain (Newfane, Vt.), grandsons, Jarod, Trevor and Corey; son, Brian Stearns (Enfield) and his wife, Tina, granddaughter, Heather and grandson, Jeremiah; son, Andy Stearns (Enfield) and his wife, Sharon, grandsons, Christopher and Michael; daughter, Angela J.S. Holt (W. Lebanon), granddaughter, Samantha and grandsons, Shawn and Scott; daughter, Beverly Holt (Claremont), grandson, Ricky and granddaughter, Rachel. Other surviving family includes a sister, Rita Barton (Newport). Wilma was predeceased by her parents, Arthur Sr. and Dorothy as well as her brothers, Arthur Jr., Stanley and Richard.
Per Wilma’s request there will be no calling hours. Graveside service will be held in the spring.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that you bake, sew or plant something with your loved ones. Donations can be made in Wilma’s honor to Breast Cancer or Osteoporosis Research.
