Walter Raymond Holze
Wake Forest, N.C. — Walter Raymond Holze, 80, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend, passed away Sunday, July 7, 2013, at WakeMed. He was born in Glendale, N.Y. to the late Arthur W. Holze and Anna Marie Fuchs Holze. He was a veteran of the United States Navy having served on the USS Coral Sea.
Walter raised his four children in Wappingers Falls, N.Y. While living there he worked his way up from an electrician to a plant engineer at Chemprene Inc. At the age of 49 he fulfilled a dream by returning and completing his high school diploma at John Jay High School in 1981. In 1985, he relocated to Charlestown, N.H. with his wife which they referred to as their “Great Escape.” He briefly lived in Hanover, N.H. at Quail Hollow. He was a devout Catholic and an honorary lifetime member of the Knights of Columbus. Walter always shared a passion for NASCAR and taking road trips.
In 2009, he moved to Wake Forest, N.C. He spent his last few years tooling around the neighborhood on his scooter and spending time sitting on the porch. He had a love for hamburgers and he acquired the nickname “butterball” due to how attentive he was spreading butter. Known by many as “Hops” he left a lasting impression on everyone he met. He will be remembered always for his quick witted sense of humor and his jovial laugh.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, July 10, 2013, at Saint Catherine of Siena Catholic Church. Inurnment will follow the service at Pine Forest Memorial Gardens.
Mr. Holze is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Mary Schmitt Holze; children, Annamarie Holze Mason & husband, Randy, of Altus, Okla., Peter Holze & wife, Brenda, of Florence, S.C., Margaret Holze Rodzel & husband Otto, of Cold Spring, N.Y. and MaryBeth Holze Webb & husband, William, of Wake Forest; sister, Jean Kries, of Grant, Fla.; grandchildren, Samantha Mason of Okla., Donna Moody & husband, Russell, of S.C., Alex Rodzel, of N.Y., Luke Rodzel, of N.Y., David Webb, of Texas, Julianne Webb, of N.Y. and Timothy Webb, of N.C.; great-grandchildren, William, Aaron and Olivia Moody; many beloved family and cherished friends. He was preceded in death by his brother, Arthur J. Holze and his step-mother, Louise Marks Holze who raised him after the early death of his mom.
