Wilfred G. Hill
Tequesta, Fla. — Wilfred G. (Bill) Hill, age 87, of Tequesta, formerly of Quechee, Vt., passed away peacefully Tuesday, Feb. 12, 2013. He is survived by his loving wife, Sylvia after 63 wonderful years of marriage. Also surviving him are his three daughters, Carol ‘Lynn’ Stoots (Herb) of Tequesta and Roaring Gap, N.C., Janet Dudley (Bob) of Kingston, N.H., Nancy Hardy (Pat) of Alexander City, Ala.; and a son, David Q. Hill (Julie) of Weston, Fla. He also leaves nine grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.
Mr. Hill graduated from the University of Vermont with a BS in engineering followed by employment at Curtis Wright Corp. in N.J. He earned a Masters degree in Engineering at Stevens Institute, Hoboken, N.J. In 1955, he joined General Electric in their Aircraft Engine Department in W. Lynn, Mass. where he continued to work until his retirement in 1985.
Upon his retirement he and Sylvia moved back to Vermont near where he was raised and enjoyed many years there entertaining friends and watching their family grow. Bill was in excellent health and enjoyed the outdoors and what it had to offer. He was an avid skier (Ole Smoothie) he was called, loved working in his yard and became very involved with golf. He played the game, worked many tournaments and was President of the Vermont Golf Association, New England Golf Association, and the New England Seniors Golf Association.
When the winters became too challenging, the Hills wintered in Port St. Lucie, Fla. Bill’s severe stroke in August of 2007 upset the schedule and they moved to Tequesta Terrace in Tequesta.
Mr. Hill is to be cremated and there will be a “Celebration of His Life” in Vermont this summer. Please join the family on Sunday, Feb. 17 between 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. to share remembrances at Tequesta Terrace 400 N. US 1 in Tequesta.
Please honor Bill by making a donation in his memory to the Vermont Golf Association Scholarship Fund, P.O. Box 1612, Rutland, Vt. 05701.
