Letter: Grateful for Signs of Progress
To the Editor:
I am thankful for a United States that has progressed in the recognition of human rights and personal freedoms in the last 236 years, the time frame used by Karen Cervantes in her Nov. 17 letter, “A Once-Great Nation Divided.” In response to her letter, I would point out that, as a woman, I am so thankful for change. When the U.S. Constitution was adopted 225 years ago, neither Cervantes nor I would have been able to write our thoughts or opinions in a newspaper, never mind work for or own one. We also would have had no say in elections because we could not vote! What this recent election has shown me is that the majority at least is moving forward.
