Barnard, Vt. — William H. “Bill” Edmunds, Jr., 88, of Barnard, died Saturday afternoon, Oct. 14, 2017, at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, N.H.

Bill was born in Barnard; the son of William H. & Alice (Hathorn) Edmunds, Sr, and was a lifetime Barnard resident. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War, and was married to Joyce Campbell in Bethel on July 29, 1954. He worked as a logger and bulldozer operator having built many ponds in the area. He was a farmer and Vermont Maple Sugar maker, and served as Barnard Road Commissioner for about 30 years until retiring in 1996. Bill served as a Barnard selectman for ten years, and was Barnard Cemetery Commissioner for many years. He was a member of the Elks Lodge in White River Junction, the Sugarhouse Swingers Square Dance Group, and was a founding member of the Barnard Mountain Viewers Snowmobiling Club. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, and was an avid fan of the Boston Red Sox and NASCAR racing.

Survivors include his wife, Joyce C. Edmunds; daughters, Sherry Doton and husband, Paul, Theresa Campbell and husband, Charles, and Heidi Edmunds; sons, Robert Edmunds and wife, Marjorie and Dean Edmunds and wife, Cara, all of Barnard; 10 grandchildren, Jenny Darling, Christopher Campbell, Eliza Doton-Cichonski, Bryan Doton, Lindsay Edmunds, Ashly Edmunds, Baiah Edmunds, William Edmunds, Aoife Edmunds and Ruari Edmunds; three great-grandchildren, Stephen Darling, Morgan Darling, and Rebecca Campbell. He was predeceased by his son, Karl Edmunds, and sisters, Marjorie Alcorn, Irene Sargent, and Ruby Edmunds.

Graveside Memorial Services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 21 at the Methodist Cemetery on the North Road in Barnard, with Rev. Kimberly McKerley, officiating. A reception will follow at the Barnard Town Hall.
