Tigers Win Tourney Finale
Keene, n.h. — Newport High’s boys basketball team outscored Keene 23-12 in the fourth quarter to earn a 59-56 win in a consolation game at the Keene State College holiday tournament.
Newport’s Spencer Coronis scored 24 points, 20 in the second half. Teammate Andrew Houde scored 19 points and Zach Whalen scored 10 points and was 5-for-5 from the floor.
The Tigers (3-2, 2-0 NHIAA D-III) took a 56-54 lead on Jason Teeter’s only basket of the game with 32 seconds left in the fourth quarter. Newport converted three free throws to seal the win.
Newport greets Fall Mountain on Friday.
Lebanon’s consolation game against Coe-Brown was canceled because of Sunday’s poor weather.
Hanover 4, Man. Central 2
Manchester — Playing its fifth game in seven days — all in Manchester — Hanover doubled up Manchester Central in the third-place game of the Manchester Holiday Classic.
Gus Lyons, Shawn Cavallaro, Andrew Huizenga and Ben Acker scored for the Marauders, who went 4-1 during their stay in the Queen City, including a 3-1 mark in the tourney.
Worthy Gardner assisted twice for Hanover, while Matthew Goff, Ben Hartman, Huizenga and Acker had one assist apiece.
Goalie Luke Ratliff made 27 saves for Hanover, which visits Concord on Thursday.
KUA in Semis
Belmont, Mass. — Kimball Union Academy is 2-0-1 heading into the semifinals of the Nichols-Belmont Hill Hockey Holiday Tournament.
The Wildcats won the Blue Division after defeating Brunswick (Conn.) 4-0 and St. Francis (N.Y.) 5-1 on Saturday and tying Belmont Hill 2-2 on Sunday.
The semifinals are at 9 a.m. today against a team TBA. Should KUA win, it would play in the finals today at 6:30.
