Letter: Anniversary of Newtown Tragedy

To the Editor:

June 14 was the six-month anniversary of the shooting deaths at the Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Conn. On this day, over 80 Upper Valley residents gathered on the Hanover Green sidewalk to show their support for the victims and their families, and to let them know that their loss has not been forgotten.

The Baker Tower bells of Dartmouth, as well as bells in surrounding community churches, were rung in remembrance. Pictures of the victims at the Sandy Hook School were displayed in memorial.

We were deeply moved by members of the Newtown community who joined us. Their presence has deepened our commitment to action for universal background checks. To all who were involved in this grassroots effort, thank you. You have made a difference.
