Letter: Impressive Scout Troop

To the Editor:

The Lebanon Recreation and Parks Department depends on the faithful volunteers who sign up and come to our special events throughout the year. We are especially grateful for groups like the Boy Scouts from Troop 34 out of West Lebanon. The Boy Scouts see the value of not only providing volunteers for community service, but also of mentoring and training young men so that they’ll invest in their community for a lifetime.

These Scouts braved the cold with us at Storrs Hill Ski Area during the Full Moon Fiesta ski dinner, leading snowshoers up the hill and helping serve visitors at one of our campfires. To top off the night, they built and slept out in a “quincy” (snow cave) after the event. Pretty cool!

Most recently the Scouts aided the recreation department in our Shamrock Shuffle Road Race, joining 40 other volunteers cheering on runners, keeping them safe and on course. They are a fun group of kids and adult leaders, and we welcome them back to our events whenever possible.

As an organization that works hard to build community, we would like to encourage boys and girls to join your local Boy Scout and Girls Scout chapters. We think you’ll enjoy it, and we know your community will benefit.
