Letter: Overdue Welcome Home to Vietnam Vets

To the Editor:

An open letter from Major Gen. William Reddel III, adjutant general of the New Hampshire National Guard, sent to the major daily media outlets, announces the second Vietnam Veterans Welcome Home Ceremony on Saturday, April 5, at 2 p.m. at White Mountain Regional High School in Whitefield. I was honored to be a speaker at last year’s Welcome Home Ceremony in Concord. It was an unforgettable experience with more than 2,000 in attendance.

This ceremony will again be attended by Gov. Maggie Hassan and our congressional delegation. It is being held in Whitefield in hopes of bringing together Vietnam-era veterans from the North Country who might not have been able to attend the first one in Concord. Veterans, families, friends and the general public are invited. The ceremony will officially recognize our Vietnam veterans and all veterans from that era for their sacrifices and give them a long overdue thank you and the welcome home they never received some 40-plus years ago.
