James W. Vanasse
Canaan, N.H. — James W. Vanasse, 62, died Monday, Sept. 23, 2013, at the Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, N.H.
He was born July 24, 1951 in Morrisville, Vt. a son of Albert I. and Angeline (Langlois) Vanasse and went on to graduate from People’s Academy in Morrisville in 1970. After school he worked various seasonal jobs, but mainly worked on the Lamoille Line of the St. Johnsbury and Lamoille County Railroad, which he greatly enjoyed. In 1976, he moved to West Lebanon and has lived in the Upper Valley since. Upon moving here he went to work for Thermal Dynamics, where he held many different positions, until 1999. He then worked for several other people, including Fogg’s Hardware and Don Henry Cleaning. Shortly after he came to the area he met Rosalie C. Dauphinais and they were married on Aug. 6, 1983, at St. Helena’s Church in Enfield. He also spent five years as a volunteer firefighter for the West Lebanon Fire Department
In his spare time James enjoyed hunting, camping, skiing and hill climbing in his younger years, watching the Boston Bruins, riding his motorcycle and getting new cars. James will be remembered as a loving father and grandfather whose greatest joy came in spending time with his family.
He was predeceased by his father Albert in 2005 and a son, Guy Vanasse, in 1994.
James is survived by his wife Rosalie of Canaan; his mother Angeline of Morrisville; three sons, William Vanasse of Norwich, Vt., and Albert and Victor Vanasse both of Canaan; a grandson John Vanasse of Canaan, whom he was very close to; a brother Steven Vanasse of Carmel, N.Y.; four sisters, Susan Teffner of West Lebanon, Barbara Carpenter of Cambridge, Mass., Norma Lewis of Stowe, Vt., and Lisa Brinkman of Evanston, Ill.; as well as many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.
Family and friends are invited to call at the Ricker Funeral Home in Lebanon on Thursday, Sept. 26, 2013, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, Sept. 27, 2013 at 10 a.m. at the LaSalette Chapel in Enfield, N.H. Burial will follow in the Mt. Olivet Cemetery on Route 5, off of exit 12N I-91 in White River Jct., Vt. Messages of sympathy for the family can be shared at www.rickerfuneralhome.com.
