Elizabeth B. “Betty” Cross
Windsor, Vt. — Elizabeth B. “Betty” Cross, 76, a resident of Windsor, passed away Monday morning, Jan. 27, 2014, at the Cedar Hill Continuing Healthcare Center in Windsor.
She was born Oct. 16, 1937, in Windsor the daughter of Eugene and Elinor (Edson) Blackington. She received her schooling in Brownsville and Windsor. She graduated from Windsor High School in 1955. She married Oscar R. Cross in Brownsville on June 23, 1956. Betty was a wonderful wife and mother and enjoyed raising her family. She later worked at the Brownsville General Store for several years. She most recently had been employed as a nurse’s aide and later as a unit secretary at the Mt. Ascutney Hospital Skilled Nursing Facility in Windsor for many years until her retirement in 2002. She was fond of knitting, counted cross stitching, playing Bingo and cards. She especially enjoyed spending time with her family and many friends.
She was predeceased by her parents and one brother, Alan Blackington.
Survivors include her husband of 58 years, Oscar Cross of Windsor; five daughters, Cathy Conley and her husband, Kelley of Brownsville, Lori Hood and her husband, David of Windsor, Colleen George and her husband Mark, of Windsor, and twin daughters, Kelley Hacker and her husband Tom, of Windsor and Karla Harrington of Windsor; three brothers, Brian Blackington of Alvarado, Texas, Leland Blackington of Newport, N.H. and Robert Blackington of Lebanon, N.H.; three sisters, Barbara Blackington of Huntington, Vt., Dale Beaulieu of Orwell, Vt. and Karen Hurlburt of Windsor; thirteen grandchildren; twelve great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held Wednesday evening, Jan. 29 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Knight Funeral Home in Windsor. The funeral service will be held Thursday, Jan. 30 at 1 p.m. at the Brownsville Methodist Church in West Windsor with the Rev. Ken White, officiating. A reception for family and friends will follow in the church hall. Committal services will be held at a later date in the Brownsville Cemetery.
