Letter: Serving the Needs of a Group

To the Editor:

This is a follow-up to the excellent letter by David and Shirley Montgomery on Dec. 12 (“Don’t Be Fooled By Labels”) in response to Steve Nelson’s Dec. 8 column. The letter discussed how the word “socialistic” has come to be regarded as horrible. It’s not horrible. If the government provides snowplowing of the road I live on instead of requiring me and the neighbors to find private entrepreneurs to do the job, that’s socialistic. If I hire a private entrepreneur to plow my driveway, that’s capitalistic. Sounds like a good arrangement to me.
