Thetford OKs Solar Plan
Thetford — Voters on Tuesday approved by a wide margin a proposed 20-year bond to build a 120-kilowatt solar array on 1.5 acres of school-owned land near Thetford Elementary School.
The 20-year, $345,000 bond would help pay for solar panels expected to meet about 75 percent of the school’s electricity needs. The measure was approved on a 508-139 vote.
Proponents said anticipated savings of $900,000 over the next 25 years in the school’s future electricity costs would more than pay for the bond.
Thetford recently won a $125,000 grant from the Vermont Clean Energy Development Fund to help pay for the project, as well.
