Arthur F. Goat
Pomfret, Vt. — Arthur F. Goat, 96, died peacefully with family on Jan. 8 at Valley Terrace in Norwich, Vt. His sense of humor survived to the end.
He was born March 13, 1917, in Brooklyn, N.Y., the son of Walter and Elsie (Rieman) Goat.
He attended Polytechnic Preparatory Day School in Brooklyn and Duke University. During World War II he served in the Marine Corps in the Pacific, with the rank of major.
In 1946, he went to work for the Champlain Company, later becoming president and chairman of the board of directors of Bobst-Champlain, Inc., of Roseland, N.J. He married Nancy Perkins of New York City in 1948. She died in 2009.
He was a member of Baltusrol Golf Club, the Short Hills Club, the Lakota Club, and the Woodstock Country Club.
He leaves his daughter, Leah Goat, of Hanover, N.H.; his son, David Goat, of Pomfret, Vt.; and nephews, Randy and Robert Goat. His brother, Richard, niece, Cheryl, and nephew, Richard predeceased him. He also leaves his good friends the Bernards, Sheila Murray, and Betsy Rhodes, all of Pomfret, and old friend Ian Grant-Suttie. He and his family have been grateful to the loving caregivers at Valley Terrace who made his last years so happy. Last but not least he leaves his fellow napper, Sweetie the cat.
Interment will be at a later date at the Burns Cemetery in Pomfret. Memorial contributions may be made to the Howe Library, 13 South St., Hanover, N.H. 03755.
