Robert Finley Sodemann
Plainfield, N.H. — Robert Finley Sodemann, 95, died Sunday, Nov. 25, 2012, at his home in Plainfield. He was born in Corona, N.Y., on April 22, 1917, to Olive (Finley) Sodemann Leib and Otto Sodemann.
Rob was educated in Floral Park, N.Y., and graduated from Jamaica High School, Queens, N.Y., in 1935. He received a Bachelors Degree from New York University and a Masters Degree from Columbia University.
On Nov. 16, 1940, he married AnnaKaie Manacek. The couple lived in New York City while Rob taught at Horace Mann School and was Director of the Boy’s Club of New York. Rob taught physical education and coached in public schools in New York State in Fishers Island, Hampton Bays, Carmel, and finally in Oceanside where he remained for 25 years and also served as Director of Adult Education and Coordinator of Special Education. The couple both retired from the Oceanside School System in June, 1972, and moved to Plainfield.
In Plainfield, Rob served on the Plainfield Conservation Committee, was on the Board of Trustees of the Plainfield Community Church, as well as serving as Chairman of the Board of Deacons. He was active with the Senior Men’s Golf League at Carter Country Club in Lebanon for many years. He contributed his artistic talents to many projects. He was a dedicated grandfather and his grandchildren’s lives were enriched by his caring presence.
Rob is survived by his wife of 72 years, AnnaKaie; his daughters, Lynn Schad of Cornish, and Susan Harrington of West Lebanon; his grandchildren, Heather Sullivan of Lebanon and Michael Harrington of Plainfield; three great-grandchilden, Matt and Ben Sullivan and Ellis Harrington; his sister, Olive Morrill of Franklin, N.H.; and brother, Ralph Leib of Concord, N.H.; and his nieces and nephews.
There will be no calling hours and a private service will be held at the convenience of the family. In keeping with Rob’s wishes, please take care of the people you care about.
