Ausbon Sargent Receives Gift
New London — The Ausbon Sargent Land Preservation Trust recently acquired full ownership of Old College Road Preserve, a 54-acre property in East Andover, N.H.
In 2002, a group of neighbors purchased the land to protect it from development. Recently, they gave the property to Ausbon Sargent. The parcel of land has good forestry soil and includes vernal pools that support native amphibians. It is listed as supporting landscapes under the 2010 Wildlife Action Plan, the land trust said in a recent news release. “The most important factor in insuring the preservation of the Old College Road Preserve, however, is its connectivity to other land.” The parcel is adjacent to more than 2,400 acres of previously conserved land.
A nonprofit land trust, Ausbon Sargent works to preserve the rural landscape of the 12 towns it serves in the Mt. Kearsarge/Lake Sunapee region. Including the Old College Road Preserve, it now protects 128 properties encompassing 10,526 acres in the region. — Staff report
