Nanette DuCharme Andrews
Lebanon, N.H. — With the afternoon sun gently touching her cheek, Nanette DuCharme Andrews passed away peacefully in the comfort of her home on Tuesday, March 26, 2013. The eldest daughter of the late Leo P. “Duke” and Irene T. DuCharme, Nanette was born in Lebanon on March 9, 1955.
Nanette grew up in West Lebanon, N.H., and graduated from Lebanon High School in 1973. After graduation she moved to Atlanta, Ga. to attend Massey Junior College/Fashion Institute of America and received her associate’s degree in fashion merchandising in 1975. She spent several years in retail positions in the Atlanta area before returning to the Upper Valley where she became a merchandiser for JCPenney’s in West Lebanon. Her true calling was working with children and in the 1980’s she became a governess for Garfield and Dianne Miller of Norwich, Vt. She married Bruce Andrews on Sept. 6, 1986, and together they had two beautiful children.
A loving and devoted daughter, sister and mother, Nanette had an infectious laugh and a smile that lit up any room she entered. She was kind and gracious with a big heart who always found the best in people. A faith filled woman, her proudest accomplishments were her two children, Catherine Irene Andrews and Thomas Hunter Andrews. A very involved mother, Nanette began her 15-year career as a paraprofessional at Hartland Elementary School, Hartland, Vt. by volunteering in her daughter’s kindergarten class. Nanette also spent several summers as a counselor in the Summer Therapeutic Program sponsored by Health Care and Rehabilitation Services (HCRS).
Nanette was always very supportive of her children and could be found traveling far and wide for dance recitals, soccer, basketball, football, hockey or lacrosse games, usually accompanied by her sister and brother-in-law. Whether waving pom-poms and screaming “whomp ‘em” at Catherine’s soccer games, or sitting in the stands holding up a cut out picture of Thomas at the senior night football game, Nanette showed her enthusiasm for her children’s athletic achievements by attending as many games as she possibly could. This continued when the children went to college where Nanette could be found at Catherine’s dance recitals or at Thomas’ lacrosse games. Her children were her world.
Nanette is survived by her beloved children, Catherine I. Andrews and Thomas H. Andrews, both of Hartland; her devoted sister, Denise DuCharme and her husband, Gregory Phair of Enfield, N.H.; her stepmother, Deborah DuCharme of West Lebanon; her stepsisters, Beth Koury and Caitlin Koury, of West Lebanon; her former husband, Bruce Andrews of Hartland; her dear cousin, Lisa Dupont of West Lebanon; and several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins. She is also survived by an extended family of friends, each of whom she adored.
Nanette was predeceased by her mother on April 8, 1989, and her father on July 13, 2012.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, April 5, 2013 at 2 p.m. at Sacred Heart Church in Lebanon. A reception will follow immediately thereafter.
