Joyce (Beers) Wroby

Hopkinton, N.H. — Joyce (Beers) Wroby, 86, passed away, Tuesday, Dec. 18, 2012, at Concord Hospital after a period of failing health.

Born in Hackensack, N.J. on June 17, 1926, she was the only child of Estelle Mae and Paul D. Beers. She graduated from Fort Lee High School in N.J.

Joyce married her childhood sweetheart, Alfred Morse Pratt “Pratty” in 1944. Joyce and Pratty had two children, a daughter Sandra and a son Richard. Her husband was a pilot with the Navy. Tragically, their happy life together was cut short when a plane he was flying had engine trouble and crashed in 1948.

She married her second husband, James Linwood Wroby in 1953 and they had a daughter Allyson. In 1970, Joyce and Jim moved from N.J. to Lebanon, N.H. where they owned and operated a Radio Shack Store for the next 30 years. They also built another Radio Shack Store in Littleton, N.H. that was managed by Joyce’s son Richard. Joyce and Jim were married for 40 years until his death in 1993.

Joyce lived in Hopkinton for the last 34 years. She loved spending time with her family, especially trips to her daughter Sandy’s lake house in Maine. She also enjoyed tending to her flowers, watching the Red Sox on TV and rooting for her favorite golfer, Phil Michelson. Joyce regularly had lunch at the Red Blazer Restaurant and even had her own “special table”.

She leaves behind her children, Sandra Larsen and her husband, Roger of Salisbury, Mass., Richard Pratt and his wife, Pam of St. Johnsbury, Vt. and Allyson Gourley and her husband, Blair of Hopkinton, N.H.; as well as six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Joyce will be greatly missed by her faithful companion, Randy, a golden retriever.

Services will be held privately at the convenience of the family.

The Bennett Funeral Home of Concord is in charge of the arrangements.
