Chester Andrew Packard

Lebanon, N.H. — Chester “Chet” Andrew Packard, 80, a lifelong Lebanon resident passed away in the comfort of his home on Sunday, Nov. 25, 2012, while surrounded by his family. He was born in Lebanon to the late Archie & Elsie (White) Packard.

Chet graduated from Lebanon High School, class of 1951. During high school he played varsity baseball and basketball. He enlisted with the U.S. Army serving during the Korean conflict and was a member of the Honor Guard, 3rd Infantry Regiment in Ft. Myers, Va. Following his honorable discharge he returned home and married Jane Rose (Swett) on Sept. 14, 1957, and began their family.

Chet was a long time member of the Lebanon softball league and was considered one of the area’s best first baseman. He was a loyal Boston Red Sox Fan, he enjoyed the outdoors, gardening and playing poker. He was a long time member of the American Legion Guyer-Carignan Post 22 of Lebanon. He retired from Split Ball Bearing now “Timken” in 1993 after working there for 36 years.

He is survived by his wife, Jane Packard of Lebanon; a daughter, Lucinda “Cindy” Packard Watson and her husband, David of Orange, N.H.; a son, Michael Andrew Packard of Meriden, N.H.; three grandchildren, Joshua Watson of Enfield, N.H., Seth Watson and wife, Tara of Thetford, Vt. and Alyssa Rose Packard of Meriden. He was predeceased by a brother, Donald Packard and an infant brother, Oscar.

There will be no calling hours at his request. Family and friends are invited to a graveside service at the Valley Cemetery in Lebanon on Wednesday, Nov. 28, 2012, at 10 a.m.
