Cradle & Crayon Teacher Earns New England Award
Hanover — Eric Downing, of Lebanon, received the 2014 MenTeach-New England Emerging Professional Award at the Massachusetts Association for the Education of Young Children conference last month in Westford, Mass.
Downing, an assistant preschool teacher at Cradle & Crayon Child Development Center in Hanover, was recognized for his potential for leadership and for promoting gender balance and diversity in the field of early childhood education.
Downing is a visual artist and is active in community theater throughout the Upper Valley. A Lyndon State College graduate, he has worked at Cradle & Crayon since April 2012. He also has worked in the Fairlee after-school program. He attended the event with Brenda Danielson, director of the CRREL Child Development Center, and Jeff Robbins, director of the Dartmouth College Childcare Center.
The Cold Regions Research and Engineering Laboratory Child Development Center, located on Lyme Road, is operated under contract with Cradle & Crayon Inc. Last month, the facility received a perfect score in its accreditation process with the National Association for the Education of Young Children Academy for Early Childhood Program Accreditation.
