Portland, Ore. — Susan Hawkes, the beloved daughter of Pamela Hawkes Doyle and the late Dr. Ivor Hawkes, sister to Martin, Gavin and Karen, died at her home in Portland, Ore., on Friday, December 13, 2013, after learning in April 2013 that she had advanced cancer. She was 54 years old.
Susan came to Hanover, N.H. from England with her family in January 1967, when her father came to work at CRRL. She, and her three siblings, Martin, Gavin, and Karen, attended the Lyme and Hanover schools. During their vacations the four children worked at Irad Gage, a Lebanon business founded by their father who died of cancer in 1979. Susan and her three siblings all became engineers, like their father. At the time of her death, Susan was running her own electrical engineering business in Portland.
