Cecile Helena Jalbert

Grafton, N.H. — Cecile Helena (Desjarlais) Jalbert, 89 years old, a 48 year resident of Grafton died Monday, Nov. 19, 2012, on the exact date her late husband Ovila died in 2008. She was born in Woonsocket, R.I. on March 1, 1923, to Emile A. & Clarinda (Cartier) Desjarlis.

Cecile was the oldest of eight. She was educated at St. Ann’s Parochial School and graduated in 1941 from Woonsocket High School. She married Ovila Jalbert on Sept. 13, 1947, in St. Josephs Church in Woonsocket. She was employed for 20 years by Jacob Finklestein & Sons as a garment worker. She was a very active and devout Catholic in her church. She was in charge of the Christmas Bazaar for 26 years, the annual Penny Sale for 28 years and the Flower Lady for 38 years. She was a volunteer teacher’s aide for five years at the Enfield Elementary School from 1977 to 1981. She was a great mother, grandmother, sister and a friend to all. She will be missed by many. She did an outreach program for 20 years with her late husband Ovila who was a Eucharistic minister for many years. Cecile also worked at all the LaSalette Fairs and worked at the Boys camp in the summer for five years. Her parents were founders of the LaSalette Shrine in Enfield, N.H.

She was predeceased by her husband of 61 years on Nov. 19, 2008, and by an infant son in 1951, her parents Emile and Clarinda Desjarlais, her brother Gerard and sister Doris Desjarlais.

Survivors are her son Paul G. Jalbert and wife Virginia of Grafton; two daughters, Claire D Jalbert of Lebanon, N.H. and Jeanne M. Conkey of Grafton; four grandchildren, Steven McKinney, George C. Conkey III, Emaline S. Conkey and Sara Rose Conkey; two brothers, Roland Desjarlis of North Kingston, R.I. and Omer Desjarlis of St. Cloud, Fla.; three sisters, Therese Lefebvre of Riviera Beach, Fla., and Rose Jalbert and Simone Ferland both Woonsocket; two sister-in-laws, Lucille Moyer of Slatersville, R.I. and Violette Jalbert of Woonsocket; and several nephews & nieces; great nephews and nieces.

There will be no calling hours; A Mass of Christian Burial will be announced in the spring.
