Roger C. Howard

Charlestown, N.H. — Roger C. Howard, 72, passed away, surrounded by family, at DHMC on Wednesday, March 12, 2014, after a long illness.

Mr. Howard was born on Feb. 10, 1942 in Claremont, N.H., son of Percy A. Howard, Sr. and Marie (Pond) Howard Morin.

Mr. Howard attended schools in Claremont and graduated from Charlestown High School in 1960. During high school he was an athlete competing in cross country and basketball. On July 14, 1960, he married his high school sweetheart, Dianna L. Lord, who died on Oct. 23, 1990. They enjoyed 30 wonderful years of marriage.

Mr. Howard worked for many years at Fellows Gear Shaper in North Springfield, Vt., before taking an early retirement due to illness. Throughout his life he built and raced stock cars with friends. Mr. Howard was also a volunteer Police Officer for the town of Charlestown for many years. He was a Knight of Columbus through Catherine of Sienna in Charlestown.

He enjoyed watching NASCAR, fishing, gardening, and spending time with his family. One of his greatest joys in life was going to see his grandchildren and great grandchildren compete in sports of all types and at all levels of competition, he was such a proud Papa.

Mr. Howard is survived by: two daughters, Kathi (Howard) Rheaume and her husband, Terry, of Claremont; Diane Howard and her husband, Chris Rickson, of Keene; one granddaughter, Kerri (Rheaume) Quick and her husband, Fred, of Claremont; two grandsons, Isaac and Nathan Rickson, of Keene; two great-granddaughters, Rhea and Devyn Quick, of Claremont; one sister, Roza (Howard) Benoit and her husband, Lee, of New Durham, N.H.; one step-brother, Michel Stevens and his wife, Maria, of Farmington, N.H.; his step-mother, Shirley O’Neil, of Farmington; one aunt, Violet Howard, of Marlboro, Vt.; one uncle, Calvin Powling, of Marlboro; many nieces, nephews, cousins, brother-in-laws and sister-in-laws.

Mr. Howard is also predeceased by his parents, three brothers, Percy A. “Cookie” Howard, Jr., Richard A. Howard, Sr., Roy R. Howard, Sr, and one sister, Joanne Mason.

There will be no calling hours or funeral. A private burial will take place at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests making a donation to a charity of one’s choice.
