Unwanted Medications Drop-Off Saturday Across Upper Valley

Canaan — Several local police departments are participating in a “drug take-back” event from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. today, in which people can drop off expired, unused and unwanted prescription drugs.

The national event is coordinated by the Drug Enforcement Agency as a way for the public to rid their homes of potentially dangerous drugs, according to a news release from Canaan police.

Drop-off locations include the police departments in Canaan, Charlestown, Enfield, Grafton, Grantham, Hanover, Hartford, Haverhill, Norwich, Royalton, Springfield, Vt., Sunapee, Thetford, Windsor and Woodstock.

They also include the Claremont Savings Bank; the Park & Ride on Route 10 in Grantham; the Kinney Drugs locations in Bradford, Vt. and Randolph; the Orange County Sheriff’s Department in Chelsea; and the Weathersfield Transfer Station.

Hartford also recently installed a permanent drug take-back container in its police department lobby.

This is the seventh event in three years, according to the release. In April, Americans turned in 371 tons of prescription drugs at more than 5,800 sites. — Maggie Cassidy
