Unity Elementary School Delays Opening
Unity — The School Board decided Tuesday night to delay the opening of the new elementary school to Monday, Sept. 8, which is four school days later than planned.
Principal Chip Baldwin said Tuesday night that a few parents told the board they wanted the school to be completely cleaned and ready for teachers and students and thought that more time was needed to accomplish that.
But Baldwin said he opposed the delay and did not think it was necessary. The building’s certificate of occupancy could be issued by the state fire marshal this week, he said.
Ron Bauer, executive vice president of Trumbull-Nelson and the project manager, said earlier Tuesday he was confident that the school would be ready on Sept. 2, with workers probably on site through the weekend.
