Windsor, Vt. — Wilma Niven, formerly of Rutland, Vt., died Monday, Feb. 25, 2013, at Mt. Ascutney Hospital in Windsor.
She was born Jan. 6, 1927, daughter of Byron and Vida (Whitmore) Fish. Graduated from Fair Haven High School in 1944 and from Becker College in Worcester, Mass.
She was employed by Springfield Local Telephone Co. and Continental Telephone Co. for 35 years. Wilma was a member of American Legion Aux. Unit 31; Women of the Moose, Chapter 241; and the VFW, Aux. 648.
She was predeceased by her husband, Robert L. Niven, in 1990; a grandson, Shawn Adams; her former husband, Dwayne Swenor; and two sisters, Doris Provencher of Proctor, Vt. and Betty York of Rutland.
She is survived by two daughters, Janet Cole of South Pomfret, Vt., Jean Pitts of Windsor; two sons, Jerry Swenor and John Swenor, both of Reading, Vt.; two stepchildren, Charlene McGovern of Arizona and Rick Niven of Hillsboro, N.H.; one brother, Byron Fish of Charleston, Vt.; also six grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; and five nieces.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Mt. Ascutney Hospital and Health Center, 289 County Rd., Windsor, VT 05089.
Arrangements for cremation were handled by Green Mountain Direct Cremation Services of Windsor.
A celebration of her life will be held in Rutland for family and friends at a later date.
